I'm a Research Associate and Guest Lecturer at the Ontario Tech University working in the field of Molecular Biology and Science Education. I recently graduated from my PhD in Applied Bioscience, with a specific focus in parasitology. I'm also a science communicator where I share science hacks & career tips videos to help inspire people and women to pursue careers in STEAM.
I'I have a PhD in Molecular Biology, with a specific focus in parasitology and pharmacology. I also completed both a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Education degree, and am an Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT: 676824). I have a strong passion for teaching, research, and curriculum development, and have displayed this with over 5 years of experience working in higher educational institutes. In addition to my love for teaching, I'm also committed to community outreach initiatives through science communication. I have developed and taken part in many STEAM outreach programs at both the institutional and community level, highlighting my commitment to education within STEAM disciplines.
Originally, I started my TikTok account 1.5 years ago to document my career journey - to show people what it's like to earn a PhD and look behind the scenes at what's going on in the lab. From there, I received comments on my videos from all sorts of people thanking me for sharing a science learning tutorial or general career tips for anyone considering a post-doc degree.
If a picture is worth a thousand words what's a video worth
Social media is not usually the first place someone might turn for career advice. More often, it is a forum for entertaining or sharing glossy photos from a vacation. However, a growing number of TikTok creators are using social media to impart career wisdom to the masses.
These content creators, known as career influencers, use their social media to help students and young professionals navigate the precarious world of work.
At Flipptap they are known as Changemakers.
Our Changemakers are verified real students and professionals who believe in our mission to democratize access to information and help create a new professional community where everyone can learn hands-on skills, mentorship and career guidance for free with one-minute videos.
They break down barriers by taking control their careers with video, showing employers their skills and showing immediate value to each network.
Best of all, they show people a new way of connecting that goes beyond email: by sharing their knowledge, success and failure stories via video.
Simply put, Sarah is a Changemaker because she is someone who takes creative and conscious action to solve a problem in our career lives.
As an Educator, leader and reference for young women aspiring to a career in science, Dr. Sarah Habibi has real empathy for others and is driven by the real goal of making our work-lives a better place.
She shares career advice, her PhD journey, her failure and success stories, scientific tutorials and general tips to help and inspire people to pursue their career goals.
She's built a community on tiktok for science lovers where she's established herself as a domain expert.
As a woman in STEM, she's breaking boundaries in our world and helping to close the gender gap disparity.
Flipptap is the next generation for professional networking with its social like platform and accessibility to so many!
I love how the beta launch has a strong focus on STEM professions because as a recent PhD graduate in the sciences, I could use as much help as I could get as I enter the workforce.
I also love how easy the app is to navigate and how it is completely Ad free so I can rest assured my data isn't being used for Ad optimization procedures.
I'm so excited to see where this takes me, and hope that one day it helps me lad my dream career.
